Earnesta grew up in the US Virgin Islands and attended law school at the University Of Baltimore School Of Law in Baltimore, Maryland. As a young girl growing up, she yearned to understand her rights as an immigrant to the United States, which was something important to her and her family. She wanted to live comfortably and securely in her new home, and to know and understand the principles that make this country great, and to help others do so as well. After graduating from college, she attended law school and worked for a Senator with the US Virgin Islands legislature. This experience gave her insight about how laws came to be written and enacted. After serving the Legislature, Earnesta practiced law in a private law office. In 1999, she and her husband moved their family to the Rio Grande Valley. She obtained her Texas law license and continued practicing law in Texas.
